Wow! Our students have had an exciting and memorable week filled with incredible opportunities and special visitors. Today, we were honored to welcome Governor Greg Gianforte, who came to recognize a very special honor at our school.
Mrs. Offerdal’s 1st–5th grade class has been selected for an incredible national opportunity through the National Park Service and the National Park Foundation, in collaboration with the White House Visitors Office. Select schools across the country were invited to help design ornaments for the 58 trees surrounding the National Christmas Tree in Washington, D.C.
This year’s theme is “What Makes Your State Beautiful?”, with each tree representing a U.S. state or territory and decorated with student-created ornaments that highlight local pride, creativity, and community.
We are proud to share that our students have been selected to create 24 ornaments for the Montana tree. This meaningful project gives them the opportunity to showcase what makes Montana special to them through their very own artwork and creative expression.
We are so excited for Mrs. Offerdal and her students and cannot wait to see their creativity come to life. This is a truly meaningful opportunity for them to share their pride in Montana in such a unique and memorable way on a national stage.

Dutton-Brady Elementary students found a creative way to show their appreciation by delivering seed bombs throughout the community. This small act of kindness was their way of saying thank you for all the support they receive. The activity was both fun and meaningful, giving students the opportunity to give back while spreading a little beauty along the way.

Dutton/Brady proudly sent two teams to the Principal’s Cup this year, hosted by Simms! This annual academic competition brought together schools from across the region and marked our first time attending in quite a while—making it an exciting opportunity for our students.
While we didn’t place as a team, our students showed great teamwork, determination, and school pride while competing against schools across the region. A special shoutout to Isaiah Schuler, who placed 11th on the individual test out of all participating juniors—an impressive accomplishment!
We’re incredibly proud of our students for representing Dutton/Brady so well, gaining valuable experience, and having a fantastic time. We’re already looking forward to next year!

Day 4 (aka our FINAL day 😢) is officially complete! While we’re a little sad it’s over, the kids made sure to go out with a bang—today was packed with fun from start to finish!
We kicked things off with 3D printing and programming, where students designed their very own dog tags featuring their call signs. This week’s theme was cartoon characters, so let’s just say the creativity was off the charts! 🎨
Next up—chemistry in action! 🧪 Students put their knowledge to the test by exploring exothermic and endothermic reactions. There were lots of “oohs” and “ahhs” as they saw the science happen right in front of them.
Then it was time to switch gears back to programming with Spheros! These rolling robots were a big hit as students programmed them to move to different locations—no wheels needed, just some awesome coding skills 🤖
To wrap up our final day, we revisited open and closed circuits and teamed up with students from another school. The collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving were amazing to watch!
I am SO proud of these incredible kids and everything they accomplished this week. What a fun, busy, and unforgettable experience! 💙

STARBASE Day 3 is a wrap!
What a day filled with incredible investigations and hands-on learning! Students kicked things off by repairing a space satellite before diving into the global water crisis. They learned powerful statistics about survival in countries without access to potable water and, through interviews and videos, were able to truly feel the sorrow experienced by those living without clean water.
Taking on the role of engineers, students designed and built their own water filtration systems with the goal of reaching a turbidity level of 50 or lower. We’re proud to say they were successful — managing to purify their water to below 50 turbidity!
The learning didn’t stop there. Students also programmed robots to navigate across Mars terrain with the mission of reaching two colony stations. Every single team successfully hit both stations — an amazing accomplishment!
To wrap up the day, students explored chemistry by learning about elements and compounds. They built and studied different elements and compounds that we use in everyday life.
We can’t wait to see what’s in store for us tomorrow! 🚀

STARBASE Day 2 Complete!
Our future scientists had an incredible day filled with hands-on learning and discovery!
They explored space by building a Mars shuttle and learning about space travel systems, then dove into robotics by programming robots and understanding their real-world purpose. 🤖
Energy was up next, where they learned the 3 laws of energy, the two main categories, and the different forms within each. They even experimented with simulations and open vs. closed circuits! ⚡
The day continued with forensic science, as students investigated fingerprints like real detectives. 🔍
To wrap it all up, they put their math skills to the test in a “bouncy” rescue challenge—calculating how many airmen could safely fit on a raft and how many rafts were needed to bring everyone back to shore. 🌊
So much curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking happening all around. We can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings! ✨

Day 1 of STARBASE is complete! 🚀
The kids had a blast today learning about Newton’s 3 Laws of Motion. They built straw rockets, tested their launches, and adjusted their forces to see how the rockets changed. It was amazing watching them experiment and figure things out like real scientists and engineers.
They also had the chance to meet students from another school and worked together wonderfully. One of the highlights was our engineering challenge: building bridges using noodles, packing peanuts, and popsicle sticks to solve a problem.
Great teamwork, creative thinking, and lots of excitement for learning. We can’t wait for Day 2!

What an incredible day for our Dutton-Brady 4th and 5th grade students at the Science Fair in Great Falls! We are beyond proud of the hard work, creativity, and dedication these students put into their projects. Their curiosity and willingness to explore big ideas in science truly paid off.
Our students competed against many talented participants and represented our school exceptionally well. Not only did they do a fantastic job presenting their projects to the judges, but they also had a great time exploring the other students’ experiments and learning about different areas of science.
We are excited to celebrate the following achievements:
🏆 Kooper Schoonover – 1st Place, 4th Grade + Merit Award for Microbiology
🏆 Mackayla Woods – 2nd Place, 4th Grade + Most Creative Merit Award
🏆 Eva Redd – Earth & Space Merit Award
🏆 Kessler Sparing – Engineering Merit Award
🏆 Lydia Schuler – 2nd Place, 5th Grade
🏆 Jayson Rainville – 1st Place, 5th Grade + Engineering Merit Award
These students spent weeks researching, designing experiments, building projects, and preparing to present their work. Their effort, perseverance, and enthusiasm for science really showed throughout the competition.
We are also proud to share that Dutton-Brady received the most awards of any school at the fair! 🎉 This is a huge accomplishment and speaks volumes about the dedication of our students and the support they receive from their families and their incredible teacher, Mrs. Toner, whose dedication and guidance have been instrumental in our students’ success. Her commitment to inspiring and supporting each student truly goes above and beyond!
Beyond the awards, the most important part of the day was seeing students grow in confidence, share their ideas, and be inspired by the amazing projects around them. It was a fantastic learning experience and a lot of fun for everyone involved.
Congratulations again to all of our participants — you represented Dutton-Brady with pride. We are so proud of each and every one of you
