Dutton/Brady Public School District continues to make strong progress in expanding high-quality STEM learning opportunities for students, reaching an important milestone with the district’s first national publication in STEM CENTURY.
The chapter, “Rural STEM Program Development and Design,” highlights how rural schools can leverage curiosity, community partnerships, and creative program design to build high-impact STEM pathways. The work reflects the district’s ongoing commitment to developing innovative programs that prepare students for future careers while staying rooted in local values and opportunities.
The district’s STEM Aviation and Aircraft Mechanics program is a key example of this progress. Recently, $3,300 in new aviation learning materials—funded through the Montana Innovative Education Tax Credit—were added to the program, allowing students to gain hands-on experience with sheet metal fabrication, rivets, and aviation-based construction techniques. These practical learning experiences strengthen technical skill development and prepare students for high-skill, high-demand careers in aviation, mechanics, and advanced trades.
Looking ahead, Dutton/Brady is also expanding Career and Technical Education (CTE) opportunities for middle school students beginning next year. New shop and career-focused coursework will introduce students earlier to STEM-aligned hands-on learning, workforce skills, and career exploration—creating a stronger pipeline into advanced STEM and CTE programs at the high school level.
Through strategic investment in people, resources, and student engagement, the district continues to build pathways that foster adaptability, problem-solving, and real-world skills, ensuring students are prepared for mastery today…success tomorrow.
STEM CENTURY will be available February 12.
